Once upon a time...back in my earlier Seattle Hip Hop days...I kept hearing about this rapper named Macklemore...I heard a few songs from him...and Really wanted a cd...but I never ever seemed to be able to run into him to get it...One day Neema was recording with Macklemore so I had Neema buy a cd for me... Ever sense the first time listening to his cd I was a fan...

Fast forward about a few years I have had the pleasure to watch Macklemore grow as an artist...I have been able to see him perform at small venues with barely anybody in attendace... I've seen Sir Mix A Lot pass Macklemore the torch...at one of his 3 soldout showbox (market shows) I've seen him hop off stage at bumbershoot (performing w/ Grynch) and about 50 or so kids rushing him for an autograph... Macklemore always gives his all while on stage...and doesn't just go up there and rap this man puts on a show...

When I was sitting in the airport and cracked up the latest XXL magazine and seen Macklemore more in it...it almost brought tears to my eyes because I was so happy for him and his accomplishments...

Keep it going brother... you've got a fan for life over here...

This is my favorite Macklemore song ever...It has helped me get through a real tough time in life...

I feel like the art of networking...has been turning into lesser known rappers/managers/promoters trying to spring board off of more known rappers/promoters/managers. Instead of two different parties truly helping each other out... I feel like people are trying to get the upper hand and not help the next man out...

Networking to me equals spending money...or offering something of value to the person you are networking with.
Spending money with a producer/studio/rapper is the best way to network in my opinion...

If Rapper A who is fairly unknown hits up Producer A who is very well known and is like yoooo dog im tryin to network...get some beats for my project... what is Producer A gonna benefit from that? Humble yourself Rapper A and really think about it...

Back in IM guessing 2004 or maybe 05 I was at the vera project for Sonny Bonoho's "Madden Mic" show he put on I don't remember anything from that show at all besides seeing this dorky short lil white guy pacing backstage in a nervous manor...I wasnt even sure who he was or what he was there for...a little while later Sonny gets up on stage to introduce the next act...On stage appears that same kid... and IM HONESTLY thinking ohhhh jesus this dudes gonna suck!...but from the very first line I heard outta his mouth I was proven very wrong...with a voice that doesnt match his looks nor stature this guys was a beast on the mic already at that time. Fast forward to May 2010 Grynch and myself are really good friends have been on multiple road trips together and have built a bond also outside of music. IM a lucky guy to be able to see Grynch grow as an artist and a person over the years...From him trying to punk me in my own house (funny story)...too him writing and dropping a verse on Unexpected Arrival's "get your mind straight" in less then a 24 hour period (i didnt know this until recently but he road the bus from PLU in tacoma) just so he could make the session I would of came and picked you up Grynch lol) "put the mic down and pipe down" To releasing his first video ever for his song "my volvo" and it having over 100,000 hits in the first 11 days...I recall having a conversation with Grynch once I think it was as he was trying to decide if he should go back to college or not...I gave him the typical advice of of course you should go to school and get a degree incase this rap shit doesnt work then you'll have something to fall back on...Well as I sit here in 2010 I can say with all my confidence that he will not need that degree. As soon as I heard about this show I knew I was gonna go. I didnt care how wack/unknown the venue was or where the show was. I remember the very first time I ever heard Rappin 4 Tay. My homie Brad came over and had Doug and I come outside to listen to this new cd he had just bought...he was with one of our older homies in his car that had a system it had to be 94. He had just bought "Dont fight the feeling" I sat in the back seat and we scanned through the cd until it hit "Playaz Club" fast forward to 2010 and i finally got to see 4 Tay perform it live...Now IM not gonna sit here lie and say it was a super dope show...No as a matter of fact it was pretty damn wack...the venue was cool but it didnt have a stage...so he turned the situation around he performed in the bar area while the crowd stood where the stage should of been. He rapped over his vocals on every song and messed up a lot. Honestly i wasnt expecting a dope ass show from him just wanted to hear/see him do the classic as 4 Tay songs and as you can see from the videos he did ONLY those songs. So with all that being said this still was an epic night in the life of Ryan(On A Mission) Oh yeah and punk ass Krue did sock Kountry (security at that spot) in the face!...

Here are some video's and pictures of our weekend trip in Oregon...I am VERY disappointed I did not get any video footage of Bambu dude is very dope...puts on a great show also...If you get a chance to check the dude out please do. Both shows ended up selling out before the doors even opened. Blue Scholars fans love these guys like they are Justin Beiber and the fans are 15 y/o girls. What's crazy is there are 15 y/o girls packed in at the shows and along with all the other age ranges race's and different types of people they all know every single lyric too every single song...and they support (buy merch) like crazy...It was a very awesome experience being able to finally witness Blue Scholars perform outside of Seattle. Macklemore also tore the roof off each venue that man knows how to put on a show. Happy-ness Sadness Ups and Downs a Macklemore set is and electric rollercoster of emotions. Bambu is a mix between a street bred rapper and a conscious rapper. Just from the 3 show's I've seen him perform I can tell he's had/has one foot in the streets and his eyes in a book (meaning he knows what's going on out here in the world and projects it through his music and still puts on a super dope show in the meantime. With songs like "My Volvo" and "Chemistry" Grynch was the perfect person to warm up the crowd for the rest of the show. More and more people are hearing about not only Grynch but everything we are all doing up here in Seattle. Its a great time to be a part of this hip hop scene of ours...

South By Southwest Through my camera! SXSW was a lot of fun, A lot of walking, a lot of good food, a lot of good show's, some bad shows, a lot of people from the town were there. Check out a few videos and pictures I took...

First video up is Dyme Def killing it at the South By Seattle Party I was still drunk from the night before and feeling like shit so I didn't get any other footage from this show. Unfortunately due to timing Dyme Def's set got cut very short as you can see in the video. I was very disappointed because the trio really had the crowd goin crazy...

Next up I got D Black rocking an "in store" at a record shop but as you can see it turned out to be an "outta store" in an alley way. Even though this event was really small maybe only 50 people the vibes in the air were extremely hip hop to me. Great music everyone killed it. Well almost everyone there was this one cat there that wasn't tight at all but everyone else was dope!

About a week ago I seen a tweet Macklemore posted talking about meeting up with the band too rehearse for a show he had coming up at the Triple Door. Macklemore alone on stage is a sight too see in its self. So I knew Macklemore with a Band would be something I had too see. I already assumed the triple door was some what of a classy venue. So I headed off in some decent clothes. Got too the venue went up too the ticket counter where the lady ask me for my name Last then first (i thought that was kinda weird still not sure why they ask for your name) then she asked "are you alone" i was the only person at the counter...so I said yeah its just me. Then she said do you want to be seated with anyone else? IM thinking what the heck is going on here...Um no IM good i can just sit alone...so I paid her...Then a guy came and escorted me inside...as we are walking toward to door too the venue he again says "soooo your here alone" IM thinkin then why in the heck is it such a big deal that IM here all alone...As that thought passes I walk through the doors entering the venue and its a dinner place/concert venue...So there's close too prob 300 people sitting at tables drinking eating and chatting it up. I get escorted by everyone obviously alone...I start feeling more and more awkward...So I do what anyone would do in that situation bust out my trust phone and tweet about it...As I was putting my phone down after tweeting how it was so awkward I look up and too my left and my good buddy Grynch is being escorted to his seat a seat away from mine. Saved the day and out impromptu "bro date" started....pause and no homo...

I had the pleasure of chopping it up with TalkSick damn near every time I have ever been at the corner. We would alway end up talking about some rappers I never ever heard of...and he would always get the exact same look on his face....whhhaaaaat you dont know who _________ is...lol...they were either rappers from Seattles "golden age" as he called it...or some super underground guys. Either way he knew a lot of hip hop and was way more passionate then a lot of other cats...It's gonna be rough going to the Corner without the homie talksick walkin around with a pitcher of beer. I always remember him sitting at that first table right inside the door waiting to greet people with a big smile on his face. Sorry I have not been around much...I've been too hot to blog...lol at my horrible bad excuse for not keepin up on this blog... honestly i just get lazy from time to time...The weather's been crazy as hell in Seattle as you know (its been a news story all over the country)we broke out all time record at 103...CRAZY...The other night Doug and I went to Chop Suey for a show...People were saying Eric Sermon was gonna be there..I really didnt believe it until we were standing outside and he came outside...We chopped it for a quick second he went back inside...Then he ended up bumming a black and mild from Doug to roll up some weed and invited Doug to smoke it with em....

Dj Quik & Dj Battlecat were the featured producer's last friday night at the War room for the beat battle...I seen some legendary shit that night...Dj Quik giving props to in his own words "his mentor" Dj BattleCat and hearing all the beats/songs these two men have produced in the game was amazing...OH yeah and the beat battle was dope also...I was kinda drunk so i dont remember much...D Sane "lost" yet again too Buddy Ross...wtf is wrong with people? Lol...there were Boooooo's ewwwwwwww's and ahhhhhhhh's all night long...overall it was a very fun and entertaining night....the boy Marcus D has some fire ass beats...look him up and fux with em...Congrats on the WIN Marcus D and runner up KD Kutz...

Off the hook...damn near electrifying...Grynch's show made me fall more in love with whats going on so far this summe in Seattle hip hop...a lot of the bullshit no talent rappers are playing the back burner (I hope it stays that way by the way...no I will not name name's...Back to the positivity....Rockwell Powers opened up the night along with ill pill checkout their cd...Grynch likes it...Tunji came up next this was the 3rd or 4th time ive seen dude rock a stage and he does just that...Sol came up next and that dudes been making music and rapping since 11 hes name near a veteran already and hes not even 21 yet...dudes super talented...then too close out the night...Grynch hit the stage with Dj Nphared...The crowd was clapping screaming and yelling before Grynch even touched a mic...my fav part of the night is in this little video I shot...Grynch and the Grynch-etts (Macklemore Tunji and Mic Phenom) hit the stage to perform "my volvo"..."my volvo" is a smash single and I think its gonna expand Grynch's fan base tremendously....

R.I.P one of the greatest entertainer's/singers/icon's of my life time...there will never be another MJ...I remember watching Michael's videos getting played on MTV wayyy back in the day...(When MTV played videos yeah kids they used to play videos 27/7) His videos were always really entertaining...I now know they were on some groundbreaking next level type stuff...I cant say Michael Jackson taught me to dance or sing or entertain because I don't do any of those things but what I can say is...Michael Jackson has entertained me throughout the years through his music, video's and even jokes about him...His song "you are not alone" takes me back too a summer when I was 15 y/o reminds me of the girl I was dating that summer out in Pittsburgh...that was our song for eachother when I came back home too Seattle...I've always listened to music and im extremely happy to have grown up in the era of Wacko Jacko!
